TSV Twelve Days of Christmas

Arachne's Silken Web provided the prize for the 4th Day of The Stitcher's Village Twelve Days of Christmas Competition. You'll find the competition described on page 7 of the December 2009 newsletter.

Congratulations to Robin T. of New Jersey! Robin won our Reticella Accessories Limited Edition Chartpack.

Robin says this is one of the first contests of this type she's ever entered. It seems her husband always made her paranoid that entering these contests would let someone infiltrate her computer! As she succinctly said: "I got over it!"

We are honored to be one of the first prizes Robin has ever won. Have a great time, Robin, making these unique stitching accessories!

Welcome to Our Parlor Scavenger Hunt: Results

Congratulations to Bonnie C.! She is the winner of Arachne Silken Web's  Needle Retail Show "Welcome to Our Parlor Scavenger Hunt". Bonnie's name was randomly drawn from the pool of entrants who answered all five scavenger hunt questions correctly. As the winner, she has received a $25 gift certificate toward the total purchase price of any new Arachne design released in 2010.

Here are the answers to the scavenger hunt questions. How many did you answer correctly?

1. Arachne’s Silken Web’s designers live in what city?  New York City

2. How many of the designs displayed on our website feature bees in the design? Acceptable answers: 9 or 10
3. What inspired our 2006 freebie design? The brickwork design on the smokestack of the Willamantic Thread Company in Willamantic, Connecticut.

4. Who challenged Arachne to a stitching competition? Actually, Arachne challenged the goddess Minerva. (We included in the drawing anyone who answered Minerva since the question was a little misleading.)

5. What six words make up the subtitle to our blog Inside Arachne’s Silken Web? Bright lights, big city, sharp needles.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the contest. We hope you had fun and enjoyed the show.

Cynthia

P.S. Tell us what you thought about the Needle Retail Show -- what you liked, what you didn't like and any ideas you have for improving it. Also, tell us how you heard about the show so we know the best way to get the word out next time. Your feedback will help the show organizers and exhibitors make future shows the best possible needlework shopping experience for you, our valued customers. Looking forward to hearing from you.

You will be playing for a chance to win a $25.00 gift certificate good for puchasing any Arachne's Silken Web design released in 2010. (Winner can redeem their gift certificate directly with us.) We already have several designs in the works, including a new Christmas Bees, the next in the German Sampler Series and a colorful adaptation of an American schoolgirl sampler from 1803.

The Needle Show Retail

From Nov. 5-8, needlework designers, shops and other vendors will be exhibiting their wares and offering them directly to stitchers like you during the first-ever Online Needlework Show Retail. Shop some of your favorite designers and stores, discover new ones, and take advantage of show specials and fun activites.

Arachne's Silken Web will be exhibiting -- and selling -- at the show. We're planning some special offers and a new scavenger hunt door prize drawing you won't want to miss!

This is a bit of a departure for us since we usually offer our designs wholesale through distributors or at trade shows. But we've received such a wonderful response from so many stitchers during the online wholesale shows that we wanted to take this opportunity to connect directly with all of you. After the show, you can find Arachne designs at your local needlework shop. If you don't see them, please ask the shop to carry our designs. If you don't have a local shop, visit one of the shops linked under "Where to Buy ASW Designs" on this page.

Because this is a trial run for the show, there hasn't been any advertising. So help spread the word -- post to your stitching groups, newsgroups, blogs, facebook, twitter, and email your stitching friends -- to make the show a success!

We're looking forward to it and hope you visit our page.

Come into My Web

Welcome to our new blog home. We decided to switch to a platform that offers more features, particularly a more convenient comment section for you. So come on in and tell us what you think. We love to hear from you.

When we started fixing up this new space, we came across this fun background. How could we resist it with a name like Arachne? Spiders are mostly identified with Halloween, but the spider plays a prominent role in the myth of Arachne. She was an expert needlewoman who challenged the Roman goddess of wisdom, weaving, crafts and warriors Minerva (also known as Athena in Greek mythology) to a weaving contest. Arachne hanged herself after Minerva shamed her for portraying the weaknesses of the gods in her tapestries. Having pity on the girl, Minerva brought Arachne back to life as a spider. From then on, Arachne and her descendents were known as great weavers.

It turns out we have another tie-in with the myth. Athena (Minerva) is usually depicted with an owl.I never even thought of that connection when I was designing Owl and the Pussycat Accessories and Owls' Night Out, but what could be more fitting. We haven't found a link to bees or Christmas yet, but that won't stop us from continuing to design around those themes.

Thanks for visiting. We're looking forward to talking with you about what we are working on. If you're not already subscribed to our blog either by email or in a reader, make sure you subscribe to receive up-to-dates on what's happening at Arachne's Silken Web. If you're new to our blog, you can read previous posts from the original blog by visiting Arachne's web site and clicking on the Inside Arachne'sWeb tab.
